Default Starter question

In the latest issue of Vintage Ford, there was an article about maintaining a Model T. In the article he mentioned installing a 6volt solenoid into the system to make the engine start easier.
Has anyone done this on their cars?? Is it available at parts stores?? The wiring was a bit vague. How is it wired?
Would a solenoid off an 8N tractor work??

Thanks!!

If the 8N is negative ground then yes you could use it. I think there is a difference between the positive and negative ground solenoids. Because the switch on the dash or coil box only picks between running the coils from the battery or magneto and off you can not use it. You would ether have to add another keyed switch or just have the activating wire run from the hot terminal on the dash thru a push button to the solenoid so that push button switch would be hot all the time. From the battery to solenoid a 0 or 00 cable and same from the solenoid to starter. Depending on the location you mount the unit would set your cable lengths.
