46 Ford pickup gas tank
We have ran into a snag with our 46 Ford pickup. The latest from rapid City is that the truck in now running after a 30 year nap and most everything is going well except that the gas tank is a hot mess!! "1 inch of accumulated rust" I am told and they are doubtful as if it could ever be repaired. Does anyone have a source for restoration or replacement?? Thanks

Re: 46 Ford pickup gas tank
An inch is a LOT of rust.... I have strapped old fuel tanks to my rear tractor wheel with bungee cords. Jack up that wheel, put a bunch of bolts and jagged metal chunks inside with a lot of water. Run a couple hours, rinse, repeat. Count the chunks for removal time. Afterwards do the redkoat or other sealer. If one of the repop places make a new tank, that would eliminate a lot of dirty work!

Re: 46 Ford pickup gas tank
From what i remember, the tank under the seat is.the same tank as a 46 to 48 passanger car. Check with tanks inc.
New tanks are not that much |

Re: 46 Ford pickup gas tank
I was not able to find anyone that made replacement tanks for the 42-47 truck years. Hopefully you have better luck. What I did learn was that a lot of radiator shops boil gas tanks and seal them. I was able to save my tank thankfully. Is your tank super rusty on the outside? Or just full of old gas and rust?

Re: 46 Ford pickup gas tank
I have an extra tank but I'm not sure what it's condition is. I'll try to dig it out today and look it over. If it looks at all usable/repairable I'll send you a PM to see if you want it.
