When they came out, seats were low, skirts were short, and it seemed the girls had longer legs in those days.

Here are a couple of stations we would like to know a little more about. The first one was in Los Angeles.

Mike, that first picture got posted with the service stations by mistake....but now that you have seen that collection, I' m wondering if you would consider trading me your nice mostly all original '35 Cabriolet for all those cars sitting in my front yard? Let me know if we can make a deal

I'm not sure of the vintage of the old Hat and Boots station in Seattle but it was quite unique.

How about this neat gas pump price sign we have at The Old Motor. More pictures here that show all the price sheets and the construction of the sign.

Think gas prices are to high compared to years ago? Check here to get the real story.

My dads Godfather had a small station in front of his home in Avon Lake, OH. Back in the 50's we would visit and my sister and I were always invited into the station to pick out "ONE" candy bar. I found a link to a couple of stories about the place. The sign out front was very unusual. About 10 years ago the entire homestead and station disappeared to make room for more modern housing. The station was big enought for about half a dozen chairs, with a car lift outside on the side of the station. http://danielebrady.blogspot.com/201...avon-lake.html

A photo taken during a gas war in Detroit, at a fairly modern looking Sunoco station in 1953.

Kathie and I ran across this Gulf station in Bedford PA, while traveling the Lincoln highway, (Rt. 30). The terracotta tile and craftsmanship that went into this station was just unbelievable. It was still selling gas too. Hope we see a few nice ones in Maine.

Fantastic shot! I've added it to my desk top wallpaper and screen saver.
