The Phillips station where I worked only had one guy on duty. The boss said when you step off the curb to go to a car, you better be RUNNIN boy. I liked washing windshields on the bubble top GM cars. When they came out, seats were low, skirts were short, and it seemed the girls had longer legs in those days.

My dads Godfather had a small station in front of his home in Avon Lake, OH. Back in the 50's we would visit and my sister and I were always invited into the station to pick out "ONE" candy bar. I found a link to a couple of stories about the place. The sign out front was very unusual. About 10 years ago the entire homestead and station disappeared to make room for more modern housing. Kathie and I ran across this Gulf station in Bedford PA, while traveling the Lincoln highway, (Rt. 30). The terracotta tile and craftsmanship that went into this station was just unbelievable. It was still selling gas too. Hope we see a few nice ones in Maine.
