1950 Ford Passenger Car Hood Latch
Hi All,Any tips, tricks on how to adjust the hood latch? If I remove the latch the hood aligns just about perfect. Soon as I install the latch the hood does not want to close completely or sometimes the hood will catch and it does not want to release even with the hood release cable pulled.
Any thoughts, Thanks, Steve |

Generally the latch has little to do with hood alignment.
The spring loaded spike can be adjusted to correct most problems but sometime it is necessary to adjust the radiator core support.

Re: 1950 Ford Passenger Car Hood Latch
This is something I need to check out on the 52 Merc. Ever since I installed the hood and fenders from my 53 parts car I have noticed a slight misalignment of the hood with a larger gap on one side than the other. I could not see any adjustments on the hood to move it to one side or the other but maybe this spring loaded spike can pull the hood into alignment.

Re: 1950 Ford Passenger Car Hood Latch
When I remove the spike the hood seems to close correctly with proper fit. I will try and gently bend the spike.
There should be no issue with the spring being strong enough, should not weaken over time...? |

And yes. there is a possibility that the spring is weak. To rectify weak spring, suitable washer/s can be added to increase pressure.
