Default 1934 Dearborn Blue paint formula

I need paint repairs on my '34. Hopefully it's a true Dearborn blue. I'm hoping to blend it as the repairs aren't near shadow lines. its lacquer so I need the formula / toner numbers and quantities for acrylic lacquer. As I live in Massachusetts, I also need an out of state mail order supplier. Besides help, I welcome advice.

Any color is going to be very difficult to match and I believe the formulas are not easy to come by as well. Maybe someone here on the Barn can help. You might try posting on the HAMB as well, a lot of painters over there.

And welcome to the Ford Barn!

Just about any automotive paint store can computer match the color. You'll have to take a panel or the vehicle to them.

Agree with Willit Stop. A couple of years ago, the generator mount bolt broke on my '34 which is painted Dearborn Blue. The fan broke and poked a hole in the right side of my hood. I took the damaged hood and had the auto paint store match the color. Two years later, I still cannot tell the difference.

I had my auto paint supplier "shoot" the paint but his computer will only give the formula for modern urethane paints. I'm hoping to blend the repair areas and I'm told that requires lacquer over lacquer. I'm told I'll have to repaint the whole car if I use modern paint. I also fear my paint color won't be an exact Dearborn Blue and therefore won't match even if I can find the lacquer formula.
I'm hoping to buy a pint and see if it matches rather then painting the whole car.

I may have to paint the whole car. Does anyone have a the acrylic urethane Dearborn Blue formula. I have reservations about my paint color accuracy and would prefer not to duplicate if I can get a good formula. My supplier has no record of Dearborn Blue.

Dearborn Blue was a 1935 dark blue. I think the next couple of years the dark blue was called washington blue not quite as dark. I sent you the formula my supplier gave me for Dearborn Blue.

Dearborn Blue started in 1934, code M-1723.
Keith, I got your formula. I assume its for acrylic urethane. Thank you. The last sources for lacquer appear to be gone.

This is off a ppg paint chip I'm guessing from the 80s? Don't know.

You might be able to get it decoded from a ppg rep.

Please let me know if you find anything out from it. Best of luck!

Just more picts of the chip chart for reference. Guess I could have these chips matched if ppg wanted to scan them.

DAL: code is for lacquer (nitrocellulose). Some on the chart I posted shows DQE colors also: enamel color.

Enamel over lacquer will peal. Sealing with epoxy primer will last longer but you can't fade that.

rockfla, that paint supply site appears to be all encompassing; any car any year in any color in enamel, urethane or lacquer. I ordered a quart of lacquer to see how good the match is. They are in California and he asked if I was in California as if they're the only state where it isn't illegal. Thanks, I'll post the results.
