46 - 48 running boards installation
When installing running boards on a 46 - 48, do the stepped rubber grommets you can buy in a kit install on top of the running boards between the board and the bottom of the body or does the board go hard up under the car and the grommets fit from underneath the board?
Thanks |

Grommets go underneath running board, the rubber cover acts as a cushion to the body.

Here's a photo of my mounting the running boards.

Re: 46 - 48 running boards installation
The most difficult part of mounting running boards on the late 40's cars is due to the caged nuts inside the rocker panels twisting off due to rust. As they are inaccessible, it almost always requires cutting into the rockers to remove them, and to hold the nuts on the replacements during replacement, followed by patching the holes. I all, it is a dirty job.

Mine has aluminium boards and didn't have covers on them so I'll just put thin rubber washers on top of the boards to seperate them. I had to replace the rocker panels so I put all new nuts in them so should be OK there. |

Seems to me that you will get a lot of road dirt and wetness on top of the boards if you put the washer on top of the board.
