Default REmoving drivers door window crank on my '37 fordor

I have had a broken window in the drivers door for nearly two years now and decided that it was time to get it replaced. Inside window trim and door handle came off pretty easy.

Then came the window crank.

The pin that holds the crank on cranking mechanism seems to be frozen. I have used a drill bit that fits in the hole well as a drift and tried pushing the pin through and even tried driving it out with hitting the drift. That sucker will not budge. I haven't tried to much of a pound on the drift as I really don't want to damage anything. I have also not used any lubricating fluid so I don't stain/ruin the door panel.

Does anybody have a hint as to what else I might try to get that pin out?

Thanks,

Maybe try a heat lamp to warm the stud/handle mechanism, wrap aluminum foil over the door upholstery as a heat shield because an infra-red lamp is capable of burning it. Get a pin punch instead of a drill bit, bits tend to shatter when malletized. You might also try spritzing the pin with some quick freeze after warming and prior to using the hammer. It will maximize the thermal difference.

Do a massage on a small clamp or pliers to attain a point on one jaw and a depression on the other.

That worked Alan. Thanks.

Now for Step 2.

To get the glass out do I just lift up on the glass and it will slide out of the riser or do I have to remove the riser from the door? If the latter, how is that done?

Thanks,

Dwayne, I assume you have the door panel off. Put the crank back on the shaft and turn it till the rollers are accessible. It's been a while, so someone else can pick it up from here...

Usually have to unbolt the regulator, crank it until you can disengage the arms from the glass channel, rotate the glass free of the glass runs, and then pull the glass out. The trick is figuring out how to get it all back in place later.

I do have the door panel removed. When you say I have to remove the regulator does that just entail removing the six screws and then maneuvering the crank shaft and all the other gear to the bottom of the door and then somehow getting the bottom channel off the rollers?
Thanks,

With the window down enough to see the roller that is held on with a screw and nut remove the roller which allows you to get the glass free of the crank mechanism. You can now move the glass up and out of the door. In case I left something out just google how to remove front door glass from 38 ford. 37 thru 39 are the same. I just had to go thru this on my 37. Was lucky enough to find an nos regulator.

That is an excellent video Don. I have tried to get the glass out following his instructions, but an having trouble getting that bottom channel out of the door because it seems to be hitting the felts on the outside for the window opening. Do those have to be removed before that channel will come out, or is it just a matter of "playing" with it?
Thanks,

Play with it. A small wedge of wood might help open the gap just a smudge.
