Leaking Gas Tank
Hi All, I have an issue that I am not sure how to deal with. My gas tank is leaking from the center where the tunnel that the dashboard wiring and armored cable runs in to the firewall. There is a seem where that tunnel is I believe soldered onto the gas tank at the factory. It has a small leak somewhere about half way down the seam on the driver's side. I know this because I have poured in a tracer in 3 gallons of Alcohol and can see the flourescent yellow with my UV light. I don't want to have to take the tank out so does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about fixing this leak? Thank you

Re: Leaking Gas Tank
Have you taken your dash panel off to verify this? I've never heard of one leaking there, when gas leaks around that tunnel I have always found it to be the gas guage leaking, just running down there.

Re: Leaking Gas Tank
Chemical sealers are like playing Russian roulette.
Take the tank out and have it fixed right. |

Re: Leaking Gas Tank
Good advice, check gas gauge for leak before doing anything major.

I had a problem with leaks on some aeroplane fuel tanks (aluminium) also from 500 gal bulk tanks (steel) I'd carry on my service trucks. Both caused by flexing on uneven ground. There is a product I'd use to seal these leaks. It comes in a cartridge just like silastic but is in two parts. One would break the seal and mix the product with the plunger and then apply just like silastic. If the tank is accessible from inside apply then spread with hand and if outside apply with the nozzle and spread with finger. Of course empty the tank first. This product would dry but retain some flexibility and is less likely to fail again because of pressures exerted by a weld. Other advantages are the tank would not require steam cleaning (prior to welding) and could be repaired in situation. I reckon it would be just what you want but can't recall the product name. I'll call my past engineer who is now a very old man and see it he can recall. If so I'll get back to you. __________________

Re: Leaking Gas Tank
I’d go with Keith’s suggestion first.

Re: Leaking Gas Tank
Okay Deroadster.
my bloke didn't recall so I called an engineering shop. The form of this product has changed but same manufacturer. It is proseal PR 1422B. and is a 2 pack. It comes in 2 forms B 1/2 (half) which sets in half an hour and B2 which they say sets in about an hour. I looked it up on the internet and the link is below. The price, I assume, is in AUD which converts to 1USD=1.30AUD but it is probably an American product which you will purchase there. http://aeroparts.com.au/ocart/index....&product_id=85
