Pinion torque tool
I like the pinion torque tool made by KR wilson, but see they are much sought after and hence pricy.
So I made one up myself, To get the inch pounds I made a alloy pulley 2 inches in diameter and shrunk it onto an old 6 spline coupler, then all you need is a good quality spring balance with the scale in pounds, wrap a string around the pulley and you have inch pounds. easy. Lawrie |

Re: Pinion torque tool
Lawrie, I tried a KRW and was unsuccessful due to new bearings preventing a smooth pull. The indicator simply bounced from one extreme to the other. I did the best i could and took it to an old timer to check my work. He simply locked the shaft down in a bench vise and spun the banjo with both hands as fast as he could. Several spins, all of which came up almost exactly one revolution. He told me I got it right, it shouldn't spin more than one revolution. I've since posted that info here and on the V8 site, and heard others tell the same story of the old time mechanics method.

Many of the K R W tools have their spring missing or they may have been replaced over the years resulting in inaccurate measurement. |
