Ugh! Just reinstalled my transmission and rear end after rebuilding them. First off the rear axle housing is leaking 600 wt oil through the gaskets between the bolts in the banjo. I know........ I gotta pull it back out. Grrrrrrrrrr ! Add insult to injury the trans makes a clattering noise whenever I change gears. Once in gear it sounds fine. I pulled the shift tower out and all looks fine. Suggestions? I replaced the bearings and seals as well the shafts. I'm really bummed about this! It's got a new touring engine in it and I'm ready to hit the road!

Kind of hard to tell from here. Sounds like you did some thing wrong. Recheck every thing you did.

If leaking between the bolts in banjo,then the gasket surface on axle hsg may be bowed a bit between bolt holes from not having enough gasket "shim" thickness in the past.It was common back in the day to just throw the R E together with any thickness of gasket available.Did you run a tap thru the banjo bolt holes or use the pretty cad plated bolts from the venders?If so,that could be a cause of leaks too as the original bolts & threads have a tighter tolerance than a std 3/8" fine thread As for the trans,its a bit hard to diagnose with out hearing it.Is clutch adj properly?

Also, a brief description of what was done on the transmission rebuild (parts replaced, etc.) might help.

Was the pilot bearing replaced??, it can make a chattering/squak as the clutch engages

Is this a model A trans, does it have modifications ?? stock trans has no seals

Overtightening the banjo bolts along with a thick gasket package can bend the flange , debris between the surfaces not removed before assembly can cause gasket sealing problems --was the surface of all the gasket surfaces checked to see if flat and true before bearing preload checking??
