Default Tremendous Loss

It is with a very heavy heart that I write this thread to let you know that out dear friend and avid Model A enthusiast Dave Lopes of Simi Valley, CA passed away Thursday morning of throat cancer. Please put his wife Lisa and son Mitchell in your prayers.

I also am sadded by Daves passing on. He was a great person and a great Model A'er. Enjoyed the brat cookout at French Lick with him and his family. Was glad he was able to show his car at the meet.

That is terrible news. I have never met him face to face, but spoke to him on the phone several times, conversed via e-mails and such. He bought some parts from me last year with Lisa handling most of the particulares and seemed very hopeful dispite his circumstances. His loss is a big loss for all the whole hobbie. I will keep Lisa and the rest of the family in my prayers. Rod

Oh this saddens me greatly.

Yearly at the San Diego swap meet Dave and I would take a time out from "shopping" and talk about Model As and our sons. I learned a great deal from him.

Like many Model Aers, I didn't spend a lot of time with him but felt like I'd known him for most of my life. You always felt comfortable around Dave. His passion for life, Lisa, his son Mitchell and his A's truly radiated from him.

I will greatly miss this good, good man.

I never had the opportunity to meet him in person, but found him to be a great guy through our communication online and through email. He will be greatly missed.

Those of you who are probably missing him the most now, are the lucky ones. I didn't even get a chance to talk with him via any forms of communication, but I always enjoyed his posts, and could tell he was very knowledgable and a great person. Prayers for the family from CA.

mot, you bring up an interesting aspect of the man, he was always willing to share his knowledge and even give rides in his beautiful cars. I remember seeing his 4,000 original mile '29 Fordor. All of a sudden he gets a grin onhis face and says, 'Let's go for a ride'. So we pile 5 guys in this museum quality vehicle and go for a ride. I believe that I have never been in a nicer driving car. At a different time we piled 5 guys in his Henry Award winning phaeton. I will never forget that generosity.

I am devistated, Dave was a very good friend of mine. The 3" dust covers on A1276 (NOS) was a trade from Dave, I had NOS 2-9/16" set which he needed.
Prior to going to San Diego I spoke to Dave and he offered very good advice to me like he did with so many people over the years. He knowledge and friendship will be greatly missed.

......what a shame

I only knew Dave from conversing on this forum, but I always felt a certain warmth and sincerity in his words of advice

His lacquered Model A's looked amazing

Dave would have made an awesome next-door neighbour

I shall feel sad for a while.......
