I would look at a couple:
Ron Bishop's book Rebuilding the Famous Ford Flathead: https://www.google.com/search?q=rebu...0MS3CPbl0ugDM: And the more illustrated Ford Flathead Engines - How to Rebuild and Modify: https://www.themotorbookstore.com/ho...QaAuNWEALw_wcB

There are several. Here are a few I like. JWL & Ol Ron are Barn contributors.

Re: early v 8 detailed rebuilding manuel
H&H flatheads has a very detailed book, Ron Holleran has good info on rebuilding early motors and setting up floating rod bearings. John Lawson has great info as well.
I don’t think there is a “best” book, because they all have good info, and I use several at once. Like reloading manuals, I don’t rely on just one. |

I have one by a George McNichol that I particularly like. If you're like the rest of us, you'll end up with all of 'em by the time you're done.

Re: early v 8 detailed rebuilding manuel
The best all around manual I have seen is the Canadian Ford book. It is available from C&G as item V-222. It has 475 pages with specs and illustrations. Ford did not publish a comprehensive shop manual in the US, preferring to use "bulletins". You can see the wide range of manuals on their web page www.cgfordparts.com

Re: early v 8 detailed rebuilding manuel
That Canadian Ford book was based on a military tech manual and was likely the best overall for the 59A & earlier types back to around 1939 to 42 for original stock restoration. In the 8BA era, the 49 thru 51 Lincoln Mercury overhaul manual is about the best for stone stock Ford & Mercury engines.
Most of the later books cover building in more power from mild to wild. All of it is good info though. You can never have too much information. |

Re: early v 8 detailed rebuilding manuel
I didn't know about the Canadian book - just ordered it, figured there is always something more to have for a reference.
Thanks! D |

Re: early v 8 detailed rebuilding manuel
There is also the book of instructions Ford provided to their authorized rebuild shops.
