Default GPS charging on an unregulated 6v system

Experts on the Fordbarn have establlished that GPS and cell phone work OK on 6 v systems . Can some one tell me if they only work on a regulated system (eg voltage regulator or alternator )....or are they OK on an original style 6v sytem with just 3 brush gennie and a cutout ?

Hallo John, the adapter plug, which are plugged into the cigarette lighter or in the usual electrical outlet, regulate the supply voltage of 12 volts (sometimes 24 volts) down to 5 volts. Thus, the connection is possible even at irregular 6 volts.

My car is all original...I charge my phone and have a GPS, never any problems.
Whole set up cost me less then $10...don't spend your money on "made for 6V use" or "made for Model A use", that's just an angle to get more of your money.

My GPS is on my iPad. It works just fine on 6 volts. Just be sure the polarity is correct.

The charger connected to the 6 volt A has a regulator built in.

The various car chargers out there for GPS and cell phone use have varying grades of voltage regulator chips built into them. Some are more tolerant of a noisy 6 volt signal coming into them than others. So if you try one and it does not seem to work, just try another aftermarket charger.

It has been my experience that cheaper chargers are more tolerant, and the pricier ones are less tolerant. Go figure.

Polarity? I just discovered that if the polarity is positive ground on your cell phone charging cord, it will blow the cord fuse. Replaced the fuse and switched the wires to negative ground and now it works OK on 6v. Now we have cell phone charging and GPS in our Model A. Thank you WMWS!
