Replacement shifting forks?
Hi all,
Thanks for your continued advice and guidance. Very helpful to have your experience and expertise. I'm rebuilding the transmission tower and just found out the hard way that none of the parts suppliers I'm aware of carry replacement shifting forks. I'm not skilled enough to weld/repair them myself. Does anyone know of a source for new replacement forks, or a company that will refurbish? I've attached a picture of the old forks for your thoughts on how badly worn they are. Given the rebuild, I'd rather not reuse the forks as-is unless they're in good shape (I don't have the benefit of experience as this is my first restoration). Thanks for any advice/insight you might have. Last edited by pklarkin; 02-20-2017 at 09:50 AM. Reason: Adding a second picture |

Re: Replacement shifting forks?
The area of usual wear is where the shifter ball rides. Please turn them and send another photo.

Re: Replacement shifting forks?
The venders have new shift forks, at least Bratton do, part # 10921 $ 20.95.

Re: Replacement shifting forks?
New Shifting Fork TIP:
The "new" shifting forks, (just like the "original" shifting forks), are pinned to the original and/or new shafts; hence, both "new" or "original" forks do not slide or wear out on the shafts. Found that some of the "new" shifting forks do not fit as tightly on the shafts as the "original" shifting forks; however, because the "new" forks do not slide on the shaft, one can wrap the shaft with aluminum foil shims to prevent the "new" forks from loosely rocking back & forth after they are securely pinned in place. |

Re: Replacement shifting forks?
Hi folks,
I had ordered the Brattons part and got a call saying they were out of stock and didn't know when they'd be getting more. Mac's and Snyder's said same when I called, which is when I figured I'd reach out to the experts here for help. |

Re: Replacement shifting forks?
Thanks all. I've tried each of the suppliers listed and nobody has new forks in stock. I'll likely try Mantiques Resto and report back. Thanks again!

Re: Replacement shifting forks?
We sell them, and have used many in transmission rebuilds for the last several years.
