flathead pcv valve kit by jamco ...any good?

hi guys ,on my 8ba engine it smokes a bit from the oil filler ,the engine is out of the truck with the oil pan ,heads and manifold off ,after advice from the barn I,m not going to do a job on it I intend to clean it up and put it back in the truck and see how it goes (I imported it to here in the u.k but have not been able to drive it due to brakes ,steering etc ).....the question is has anybody used the pcv valve kit made by jamco ,it replaces the vent tube and connects to the vacuum pipe and sucks into the carb,seems a simple answer to a smokey engine bay , what do you think or am I wasting my time and cash? , any advice would be appreciated. cheers jim.

i have one on my 41 w/ 50 merc engine even though i have no blow by it a good idea to have one seeing most later cars have them

Just cut the draft tube piece that goes into the intake and get a pcv rubber grommet and a gm pcv cost me 10 bucks.

If it helps any, I used a bushing #42054 from the "Help!" rack. The valve is a Fram PCV306. Slid the draft tube out of the manifold and slid the bushing in. Fit perfectly.

I have used the Borg Warner #382 PCV valve and inserted it in a late Ford grommet from the rack at the auto supply store and plumb it to the intake manifold under the carb. The grommet has to fit where the road draft tube goes into the manifold. The reasoning for the Borg Warner unit is the valve operating range;
closed at 16-18 in hg
floats at 8-16 in hg
open at 1-6 in hg
I have used this in several 8BA engines and it works great.

I have the same one that Jamco sells but I got it from a fellow in Canada. A while back there were some issues with Jamco filling orders so I went with him. He sells on EB.
Nice machined spacer with a o-ring that actually fit for once.
I plumbed mine into both sides of the manifold so it would draw from all the cylinders instead of just a few. I have seen cars that had PCV plumbed into the intake manifold in one runner and foul the plug in that cylinder. I didnt want that to happen.

Can you provide more detail on "late Ford grommet"?

The grommet that I used is for the PCV valve on a 1975 to 1994 Ford or Mercury. It fits right in the road draft tube hole in the intake manifold. The Borg Warner #382 PCV valve fits that grommet and has the correct rating for the flathead.

it arrived and looks good and fits nicely but sadly I,m having to have a rebore ,new pistons ,rings shells etc so the easy/cheaper way out of using the pcv system to help rid of fumes is not to be ,although I will still fit it .....jamco easy to deal with ,no issues and about $60 including shipping to u.k ....our post office lost it and then i got charged a nonsense amount of tax and handling after they found it 6 weeks later , grrrrrrr.

Lots of issues with Jamco filling orders. Lots of threads on the H.A.M.B. about this. Buyer beware.
