Hi there,
I have a 1928 Ford A Sport Coupe I purchased in Mound House Carson city Nevada, Clyde Collins was the owner. I wonder if you guys could help with any knowledge or history for the vehicle or how I would research previous owners through title history or maybe the process to do so.
Engine # A413689
Frame # SFA15226
I’m from New Zealand and live in Auckland and would appreciate any information or input you may be able to help with.
Thanks
Chris Pollock

If the vehicle has not been titled in the computer era (1990’s forward) then there will be no way to search motor vehicle records. Even if it was you will likely only get the previous owner. The Department of Motor Vehicles in CA (I am most familiar with) had tightened restrictions on releasing third party information. These are government bureaucracies that can be notoriously difficult to navigate. It likely comes down to old fashion detective work and luck; tracing family of known previous owner etc.

Best of luck!

SFA15226. That is the body assembly plant and body number.
SFA is San Francisco California.

Exactly where on the frame did you get that SFA number? That is not a number that was originally stamped on the frame.

The SFA number is most likely on the body cross member between the floorboard
and front seat.

Thanks guys, a lot of good useful information, unfortunately Clyde Collins has since passed away, perhaps I could locate his family to further the history for my vehicle. To complete my restoration I require left and right Drum style tail lights, these items are very hard to purchase new, I have contacted all the major suppliers and none have anything in stock and no future supply eta. Perhaps someone in the forum will be able to supply contact details for the supply of these lights. My vehicles frame or body number is stamped on the cross member in front of the seat, left side of of car and the manufacturer’s date is stamped too left side firewall…. 8-24-28.
Appreciate all or any input in regards my query. Thanks Chris

The frame number should be stamped on the left top frame rail behind the cowl.
You need to raise the body to see it. It would have a star before and after number.
