Default Re: Bendix conversion F1 vs F100?

I did the conversion about 8 years ago. At the time, F100 was the best option and I used that. Later I found out that the F-1 set up was usable. I don't know the difference between the two.

Street Rodder magazine ran an article on the swap. I still have the article and if you would like a copy send me your address via PM. It gives bearing #'s and what mods need to be done. It's not on my computer so I cannot email it.

I posted that information in #4 in this thread.

Do you have any more details on how you got these parts to work.

When I set the same parts together, the '40 style Ford drum sat against the outer lip of the F-250 plate when it was about 5/8" shy of seating on the face of the hub. At the same time the drum was all but bottomed out on the edge of the 1-3/4" shoes.

So I did some testing and I’m very disappointed. As stated in going to need a 1 inch spacer and longer studs or I’m going to have to come up with something different. Wire wheel fits the 48 hub with original or boling brothers drum, but will not fit the F1, or the F1 with a modern drum. Of course no problem fitting the steely rims.
But I really want to use my wires.

If you got a good set of 48 drums and hubs , look for some Lincoln rear backing plates and use them on the front.
Removed the parking brake linkage and weld up the teardrop shape hole. Bolt together stuff

Looks I’m on the hunt for Lincoln brakes it appears. I may change out the banjo rear on this car for an open drive And Ford 9”., this will be another problem with using wire wheels in the rear.

All of the part are the same between the F1 & F100 except the hubs and the drums. The hubs are very different and require the matching drums.

One thing to keep in mind...the F100 brake swap will work on a '39 front axle, but will not not work on the rear. The hub/bearing design is completely different on the stock '39 rear axle and will not accept the F100 drums at all without major modification!!
