Default Leakless Water Pump

12 years or so ago, I rebuilt the motor on my 29 AA. I decided to buy a 'Leakless' water pump for whatever it was going for back then.
Well, my leakless pump is now leaking around where the packing nut is...
What should I do?

Most are not leakless. Some are built with just an O ring. You can try packing behind the nut, but if you run a leakless, you better have a spare for repair on a trip. With the old original, Easy to fix on the road.

There were/are several different designs of “leakless” water pumps. If you’re mechanical, take it apart and see what style it is, and you’ll most likely be able to find parts and repair it. Otherwise buying or building a new pump is the answer!

I agree.
I rebuilt my pump as original, and it's been leakless for over 20 years. I now use the double lip seal in the rear bushing, to better keep the grease and antifreeze separate, but otherwise the pump is just like original.

If it came from James Rupert, he will refresh it after the warranty period for a much lower cost than his original unit......he's the best water pump guy I know of.

I believe the directions with mine suggested tightening the nut if a leak develops.

I bought mine from James. The HD pump (high dollar) it’s supposed to be leakless and maintenance free.
I called a few guys I know that had the same one and they’ve been running them for 15-20 plus years with no troubles.
