40 to late 40's rear pickup fender differences
I have a line on a pair of steel rear fenders that I think might be from a 47 pickup. The advertiser says they are 40-41 fenders but there is no gas filler neck hole. That immediately makes me think they are 42 to 47. The sides of the fenders that mount onto the body look like pick up fenders with the correct lines to follow the pick up bed; that would be two steps down on the front of the fender.
Are these adaptable to a 41? |

Re: 40 to late 40's rear pickup fender differences
Hey38-41 is the same. Difference in the 42-47 is the shape were it bolts to the running boards. The lack of a gas fill hole and the right side would not have the large dimple for the spare tire.
They can be made to fit with minor welding Careful they also made a 3/4 ton fender which is much larger and wont work |

Thanks skidmarks. I'll have to see what the fit at the running boards look like. Wondering if a patch panel is made for that.
At any rate the amount of work to get these to fit nicely will be considerably less work than the ones I have. |

Re: 40 to late 40's rear pickup fender differences
I'm looking at the patch panel for the rear fender for the car:
http://www.hotrodssheetmetal.com/19foreferese1.html I know the fender to body attachment is different, but will the area attaching to the running board be the same as the truck? |

Re: 40 to late 40's rear pickup fender differences
I think the company that built the beds and all the cab patch panels has the rear fender repairs. I saved the bottoms off a junk set to fix ones on one of my 40 pu. Would also depend if you want the dimple for the spare on the right side. The repair panels are about 6" tall. The car fender repairs are not wide enough but you might be able to use the outer edge to match it up

Mack products. I think they are in Missouri or Iowa is were I have gotten bed parts from but I dont think they make any fender or cab panels just beds. Northern classics I think was the name of the company that makes all of the cab fenders and bed parts. Its been awhile since I have bought anything new. I think northen sets up at hershey in the chocolate feild.
Mack products is a different company then the Mac parts company in NY state. |

Northern classic does make the parts as I was there last week and saw stacks of them. Really nice people to do business with. Their shop and awaiting parts was impressive.

Fenders .... rear fenders...... someone mention fenders????
Great find if they are solid, sounds like the conversion is minimum. I've been hoping to find a set myself. Mine are truly going to be a nightmare to repair if I have to. How bad are yours to start with? Got some pics? |

Re: 40 to late 40's rear pickup fender differences
I had the wrong fenders on the truck to begin with. They are in really bad shape. The ones I found appear to be from a 47 and will take some crafty rework (much as you have been doing) to get them to look like 1941 fenders.[IMG][/IMG]
[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] (Not sure how to make these pictures smaller) The guy was selling a scrap 47 body that he was once going to make a rat rod out of for $500. The body was pure junk. He let me have the fenders for $250 as I couldn't have yet another vehicle in my suburban yard. |

Great find there. Looks minor as far as patch repairs.

A little rust, but they don't have extensive surface rust. That's odd to me. Your talent would have these looking new in no time. I'm still working on that skill. I'm trying to figure out the fender to running board configuration.

Re: 40 to late 40's rear pickup fender differences
Too bad it wasn't closer or I would buy the remaining parts truck. The rear is worth it if the rest of it could be bought for $250. The steering column tube and transmission crossmember/ pedals are desired pieces for hotrod projects

I remember seeing actual diagrams of the differences and for the life of me am not able to locate the drawings. LOL
