rear end ratio
Trying to verify my 56 F100 rear end ratio.Jacking the truck up taking off the rear wheels, unhooking the driveshaft and I took the brake drum off. Marking the U joint yoke and the axle flange, I spun the u joint yoke only about 2 1/8 turns for one revolution of the axle. I certainaly don't have a 2.16 + or - ratio...It is a 3 speed manual truck .What am I doing wrong? I have used this practice and is correct on the bench with several 8" ford rear ends that I know the ratio of, and that works? Help please?

Re: rear end ratio
Do it with one tire on the ground. You more than likely have a 4.27:1 Dana 44 axle. (double the number you got with both tires off the ground).

Re: rear end ratio
scicala is correct. You have to lock one wheel. I do it by jacking one wheel just off the ground. Mark the tire at the ground for reference, and mark reference points on the yoke. Turn the tire two revolutions while counting the revolutions of the yoke.
