Default Add-on Fuel and Vacuum plumbing....

I was looking at this '36 on Hemmings today and was drawn to the hardware and plumbing hanging on the backside of the carburetor. I'm not familiar with a setup like this. Can someone explain all of this add-on plumbing - both fuel and vacuum? Does it have something to do with a gas heater?....

Had a Southwind in a 41 in High School. Loved that heater!

Dumb question, what did the line to the intake manifold provide? Venting of some kind I assume?

The gasoline heater fuel pickup line usually was put thru a hole in the top of the carb. This was a way to get around drilling that hole.

The vacuum line is necessary to draw the fuel into the heater.

Some people believe the fuel can siphon into the heater when the engine is shutoff with no vacuum. To prevent this Southwind included three vacuum break devices to prevent this from happening. UL label requirement I believe.
