Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?
If you dislike the "GM" alternator, call it a John Deere part. Same but different. For the fan, my high compression 312 ran warm in heavy traffic. I found a fan from a Granada with A/C, it had seven blades and cooled much better. All the Fords from the 80's and 90's had the same fan bolt pattern except 429 and 460. Any fan including clutch fans would interchange, just try to use the bolts that came with the fan and spacer you find.

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?
Just installing the same Gen 4 in my 55 Ranch wagon.I had a under dash unit that would not do the job,I have an aluminium radiator with a Cooling Components electric fan with a 105 amp alternator so cooling was not a problem for a warmed [cam headers 600 holley]272. The unit fit under the dash nice but the glovebox is going to be about 2" deep.Dave

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?
On the glove box, I just fiberglassed over the glove box because it was in pretty bad shape. Now if I need to cut and fit a A/C it is easy to do.

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?
My 55 has vintage air and it never get's to 190 in this Texas summer heat, it has a pusher fan in front and two smaller pull fans in back. I'm pretty sure the radiator is larger than the stock one that came in the car. it cools down fast and is colder than my 2016 truck. I tried posting pics, but no luck. Al

I would like to see pictures of your radiator, fans, and inside unit. If you will send them to me at [email protected] I will try to post them.

Re: 1955 Ford Ranch Wagon/ Vintage Air Question?
I think I lost a little more than half of my glove box. The previous owner installed the A/C.
I just have the regular fan and radiator, it worked fine in Florida. I've since moved to the mountains in NM, I seldom turn the A/C on. I would like a shroud tho. |
