Default Parade Car

Our local town contacted me about being in the Memorial Day parade...Is it a good idea to be in a parade with a Model A ? All the stop and go, and using the clutch a lot...will it over heat? it is about 2 miles.

Its not unusual for us to have fifty Model A's in our July 4 Parade, and Memorial Day Parades and no problems even above 90 degrees F.
We usually have twenty in our Thanksgiving nightime parade at 30 degrees and the cars do well then too.

That is one of my greatest joys our cars is having other people enjoy them. And a parade is a great way to do this. I have have done dozens of them with no problem. Enjoy

WE just did one in Miles City Montana. It was fun. Cars did well. Although, I have to say, this years parade went real slow. Just develop some space between you and the car in front of you so you can some what roll along.

Short video.

http://youtu.be/9wjz7gbsvKA

The car in front is the families 1926 Model T. The smoke is from an oil leak that sprung up on us, and it is dripping on the exhaust.

I enjoyed your video very much as I also own a 1927 Model T Roadster as well as my Model A. One thing puzzels me however, Why is your drivers side Headlamp pointing sideways I trust that wasn't from hitting the car in front.

I had taken the horn off to get it working. Didn't have a lock washer to put on it. Thought I had gotten it tight enough but, alas, didn't! It rode all the way to the route just fine, never moved.

I was pretty dog gone embarrassed about it. But, I did get the horn cleaned up and working properly!

DO MAKE SURE YOUR HORN IS WORKING WELL or you will feel silly when the kids all start pumping their fists like a trucker working his air horn, demanding an AHOOGAH !

Just dont give in to the temptaion to push the spark up and chuck-a-luck along or it might run hot. Drive it like a normal car. Enjoy having your picture taken.

Bring along a friend who is a veteran and make up signs for the sides of the car with his name, service branch, rank and where he saw action. Google for images to find graphics of his service branch and unit, and also insignia.

And definitely make sure the horn works! The kids love it.

I'll be parading with the Boy Scouts this year - the troop is 3 years older than my '31.

One Scout will be riding inside with me, and we're going to pick two scouts to ride in the rumble seat. Maybe a raffle or drawing straws.

OUCH
I was not thinking you all are thinking MEMORIAL DAY PARADES when Horn Beeping is inappropriate in my mind.
We are there to remember those who gave their lives, not celebrating July Fourth.
All my emails regarding Memorial Day Parades or when we accompany a member's funeral parade should have NO AHOOGAH's.

Memorial Day Parades around here all have sirens etc. going on the lead police and fire cars, and antique cars all honk horns.

Great idea about the veteran or Scouts. Model A's are made to share!

Ours are the same way, lots of horns and sirens. It is a parade. In my home town the parade ends at the cemetery, where there are ceremonies with the appropriate reverence and remembrance as to why we are there.

I've had a lot more fun driving my car in parades than I've ever had sitting in a chair at a car show.
