Re: assist seat rope 4dr
I think that is called a Robe Cord. Used to hang a robe or a blanket folded over it. I wouldn't use it as an assist to get in, may ripe it off. It is only held on be two wood screws at both ends.
MAC's has the brackets but not the cord. I think Labaron-Bonney had the cord? The material is similar to that of my windlace. Rope Cord in my Town Sedan Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 11-16-2021 at 06:56 PM. |

Re: assist seat rope 4dr
Derek - the (I'm pretty sure) original robe cord on my '30 Town Sedan looks a bit different than Y-B's but the purpose is the same. Be careful using the term "assist", the straps that hang down on the C-pillar on the four doors are called "assist straps" and are much more substantial. BTH, I'd be interested if anyone has found a source for the more decorative braided assist straps that were used on the Town Sedans.

Re: assist seat rope 4dr
The original robe cord had a small diameter spring in the core.

Derek
The pictures that have been posted show the robe cord ends for a straight window 4 door sedan. The attached picture shows an original Slant windshield sedan robe cord and end. Also I have attached a picture of the correct screw for the robe cord end.

Re: assist seat rope 4dr
To answer the orig. question, haven't found a supplier for the orig.. style as posted in 3,7 above. May want to try horse lead rope which comes close to the twisted pattern, then try to dye or color it somehow.

Re: assist seat rope 4dr
The original robe cord is composed of individual woven strands wound around a spring core and secured at each end with steel cinch rings. This gives the appearance of being a rope but it’s really not constructed like a rope at all. Rope will sag, the original will not.

I have heard good things about this guy. Does great shades and tassels. Could probably do a robe cord easily.

Looks like I could stand to shorten mine a little. It must have stretched over time. I usually have a "Lap Robe" hanging over it and took it off to take the above picture. I think it has a rubber hose inside it. Last edited by Y-Blockhead; 11-19-2021 at 11:46 AM. |
