Default Throttle return spring and baling wire

Happy New Years! So I need to start posting some of the fixes my grandpa did to his 49 Merc over the years. Some are right off the southern Minnesota farm. At some point he attached baling wire to the return spring to hook it to the carburetor. Now, I too grew up and still live on the farm, but in Southern Illinois. I would consider this a good use of baling wire. However, my curious mind wants to know how what the correct installation looks like. Unless someone has a reason why this setup won’t work, I plan to leave it as is, because that is how grandpa had it. Thanks!
