Re: Tie rod thread ??
Found a new right hand thread one here in NZ but no joy with left hand thread die nut,Anyone know in the US where i can purchase, ???Building some new drag links by using the tie rod ends from the A tie rod, These will be ajustable so as one can set zero play in the straight ahead postion, A number of folk are having a problem including myself, pos faulty new sector shaft or short drop arm resulting in zero play with wheels at 11oclock,These ajustable drag link will allow owner to correct all, Constructive comments welcome, Course these will fit LHD & RHD vehicles, thanks,

Re: Tie rod thread ??
Quickchange,
It would probably be less expensive to just buy a new tierod. That is what I did. The ends turn easy on new rods. Rusty Nelson |

Re: Tie rod thread ??
Why do you need the $$$$ left hand die? Just use a complete tie rod, keeping the left, and cut down the right-hand end to length. You don't need the tap at all, as the ends are already threaded. You could easily thread the rod on a lathe, so you really don't need any taps or dies to make an adjustable drag from a tie.

Re: Tie rod thread ??
Thanks , my enquiries did not reveal a suppier so was looking At producing new ones, Its the drag link not tie rod , Just use tie rod ends , no horrible looking ajuster in the middle, Its to centre the steering box in relation to the front wheels not the steering wheel . Thanks all.

Re: Tie rod thread ??
If you still want one go to https://drillsandcutters.com. I bought one for 22.20 last fall. They have both right and left hand. I was making a drag link out of a tie rod. I tried cutting threads on the lathe but they were rougher than I wanted I was told its hard to cut them on a lathe because the stock is too soft to do good theads. I only know what I was told. While waiting to be delivered I took the right amount out of an old tie rod, chamfered the ends and turned a bolt down to go in the center, then I welded it back together and turned it in the lathe. I'm happy with the result. When I do the next one with the die I will still put a bolt or something solid under the treads like Henry did.

Re: Tie rod thread ??
You may not have all the right information.
With anything Ford you must also ask the thread tolerance. It is likely that standard taps and dies will leave the threads too loose. I do not know what standard was used for the tie rods, but it would be wise to find out. |

Re: Tie rod thread ??
www.mcmaster.com is an unbelievable source for various tools, drills, generic supplies (like all kinds of nuts, special material o-rings, everything). Check out their website and look around. They also have the best index to their products of any .... you can find what you want quickly. Their service here in the US is incredible, 2-day ground, which means their orders go right out and don't sit on a counter somewhere for 3 days.
I wouldn't worry about thread tolerance. I never have.
