Talking FOUND!!!!!! STOLEN roadster Bakersfield,Ca October 26th 2011

Its unfortunate news to hear but sometime today a couple of my fellow Bakersfield Model A club members had their 1928 AR Model A Roadster stolen from their home (may currently have no top on it). I know we're mainly traditional hot rodders here but any help would be greatly appreciated towards the return of said car. I just read about the discovery of one of our fellow Hambers shoeboxes parts and about the sting operation they did to bring these criminals to justice. We all enjoy our cars and this couple has had this particular car for a very long time. Its very critical the word gets out to get this car back in one piece hopefully. Remember that spreading the gospel is about helping others in need and you would hope they do the same for you. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. If you have any information at this time I am putting up the Kern County Sheriffs office# to call (661)-861-3110

This is the only picture I have of it at this time.

It would be a good idea to post up as much info on the car that you can. What parts on the car, other stand out items, and the license plate number. Good luck and I hope this car get returned!

That is a real shame, he has had it for almost 50 years. It's like losing a member of the family.

It's a nice looking car too!

I'm sure the person who stole it knew what they were stealing seeing as how it's an early AR. I'd ask around the local clubs. They also had to know the neighborhood well enough to know when to spend all that time taking the door off. I'd keep an eye out on Ebay for sure.

Heres the story that aired on the news last night, this really is a shame and I hope all your help pays off with the recovery. AR model A(s) have unique things about them, no door handles exterior wise, brake handle is on the left side of the car instead of center, wheels are specific, radius rods are way smaller in diameter where they meet the backing plates. Just some things to look for if it gets parted. Frames are unique too because the front crossmember has tabs for the engine to mount solid to the crossmember. Keeping the faith it will be found!-Weeks

WEEKS 46 ...........................
I'm guessing that this "A" Model was not stolen, because it was an early 1928 model, but just because, it was a roadster. I'm guessing it will become a street rod on another numbered chasis.
Let's hope that someone on here knows someone who just "picked up" an "A" Model roadster body.
There can't be too many degrees of separation from the persons who stole it and Fordbarn and H.A.M.B. members !
String 'em up !

I agree with Mike,
Somebody must hear of something in the future. There are so many barners and HAMBers that are good people in the model A and Hotrod community that hopefully something will catch one's eye.

The yellow trim is unique, might help identify it if it shows up on Ebay.

Yeah, the 'open' end bumpers are unique also!
BTW..talk about a coincidence...did you see the one just listed on the for sale side last night...except for colors...A CLONE and a beauty!

Everyone watch for the chassis for sale too, as I agree that whoever took it was stealing for the roadster body!!

IMO, most of us car people visit the various sites , shopping for PARTS. If my guess is anywhere correct(taken for body), there are many very valuable parts from this car, that will come up for sale, i.e.- top/chassis/engine/rad and shell..whatever for an AR 28....KEEP AN EYE FOR THESE THINGS!

Not saying I would, but my first choice for stealing a Model A would not be an AR. Too many odd ball parts, specific to the AR. If I would of know what an AR was when I bought my 1st Model A, I would not have. LOL

Being a roadster, I too think it was stolen for the body, to make a hot rod.

Sure hope it is found soon......

keep an eye out for those wheels, not going to fit a 5 on 5.5" bolt pattern.

The hole pattern should be the same but the inner hub depth is noticeably narrower.

AGAIN, as I said !! The big give away here is the "FRONT OPEN END BUMPER" If it has not been stripped down by now it would have to be one of the first 200 or so made with it, & it is not a replacement "T" bumper.. Also it is "NOT" an "AR" car.. NO such thing ever made..

The Bakersfield area is full of thieves. A friend has some containers and trailers loaded with cars and parts on his 20 acres in Tehachapi, CA about 25 minutes from Bakersfield. They stole flathead engines out of a trailer. They cut locks off containers and removed cars out of them.

Found intact only missing horn, spare tire, mirror. In a field out by Lamont. Back with the owner in a more secure area of town with his son. Thank you for all the help everyone. I am sure all the media exposure and people on the lookout scared the thieves into dumping the car. Got the message earlier tonight at our weekly sunday night coffee I got the details of the recovery. Sheriffs found it. Have a good night everyone and thank you again for all the help!-Weeks

I'd like to think that all the discussion on the barn might have played a small part in making folks aware of this. Very releived, and congrats to the law enforcement agency responsible! Most of all, I am happy for the owners. Well Done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
