Default Subtle differences in 8BA fuel pumps

I think that there are subtle difference between early and late 8BA fuel pumps. I believe some of them are tapped for NPT fittings, while others use the "Ford Nut" with a ferule for connection. Can anyone explain what the differences are and what years are which?
