Re: 1939 steering box
35 looks different to 39, and 37-39 are identical

Re: 1939 steering box
Here are 2 links. The first is a 35-36 and the second is a 37-40 so you can see the differences.

Re: 1939 steering box
If you are replacing the 35-36 with the later box and using the light switch at the base you will have to use the 37-39 bracket and bale.No need to change the switch and its components. The change to the 37 and later gear gets involved also.Several threads on that subject here.

Re: 1939 steering box
First pic JM 35 sedan posted ,the one on the left is a 37 and later and you can clearly see the difference in the light switch bracket.I did a quick search and here is a link to a thread that will get you started.I have heard that its not necessary to replace the frame bracket but drill a couple new holes on the original 35-36 to fit the later box.I have done the conversion twice and it was well worth it.I did replace the bracket with a Bob Drake repo.Originals due turn up on EBAY.Finding a good 37 and later box might be another challenge as many out there are worn out.

Re: 1939 steering box
I use the 35-36 pitman arm on the 37-48 box for this conversion.
