$22 is back!

I don't need one, but it's a great price. (Damn, I bet we sound like a bunch of women buying shoes!)

"But honey, they were on sale!"

The shipping would probably have killed the deal anyway...
You need 12v coils i have plenty of NOS ford can coils.

Amazon uses dynamic pricing that will fluctuate based on supply and demand. You guys caused a spike in demand that bumped the price up.

FWIW, RockAuto also has this coil for $39.

Will this coil work on a 6 volt system?

I have seen the price on an item shoot up just after I viewed it on line several times before buying. They must know when I looked so they upped the price for me hoping to create the thought that maybe I had better buy it before it continues to go up. Doesn't work on me. I went back several days later and the price was lower again.

No, what is often referred to as "internal resistance" is too high. In general terms a 6v system wants to see ~1.5 ohms of resistance & 12v ~3.0 ohms. For a 12v you can use a coil with 1.5 ohms paired with a 1.5 ballast resistor OR a coil with 3.0 ohms (such as the coil in question).

Sure, why not? Now, it's a 3 ohm (primary) winding coil. Normally used with 4 or 6 cylinder engines. BUT, it should work slick to run in a system that has either removed or bypassed the external resistor or ballast. I was thinking as a spare, in case the Pertronix Ignitor fails on the road. Just install points, Bosch coil, condenser and should be all set for as long as required. As you may know running points without about 3 ohms resistance in the primary circuit will roast the points quickly.

Maybe Bubba can speak to this, what they did in the 12 volt days was split the 3 ohms primary resistance, between the coil and the ballast, whether a wire or ceramic unit. While this reduces the voltage and is what people talk about or often measure the reason for this is to reduce the current flowing, through the points (or solid state module), they will burn up with too many amps.

Thanks for the post. I bought 8 of them. So tired of failure of the coils, condensers, voltage regulators, etc. that come from the parts house. Is there a condenser that is the best match for a crab? I have a Napa IH200 now.

I use a hundred or so each year of the FA54 condensor from NAPA with no problem. The crab doesnt experience the problems that the helmet have based on using a external coil more closely matched to the ignition...

Yep thats the design , the oems used a 1.5 ohm coil with a 1.5 ohm resistor for years, (even after resistor went away they used a loom resistor of specific length 24-36 inches to drop the voltage). This maintains proper amperage and divides the wattage (less heat) Thats what we have shipped for years with our chevrolet conversions , however i cant get every gearhead to use the matched coil and resistor so we now ship the Bosch Blue internal coil. (when i can get them)
Marketing takes over sometimes and people will buy the MSD super red stinger high output supercharged modified coil and it will burn every thing up in the older systems!!! Many distributors i get that are problem units i can smell the problem when i open the box !! Everything is fried in the system. I tell my local customers , you run what i give you and run the MSD decals on your car , no one will ever know.!!
