Wow! Model A's on Okinawa? Flew thru there once 40 yrs ago as a kid on our way to Misawa, Japan. Dad was in the Air Force. Congrats on your roadster and welcome to the Barn!

maako,

Welcome to the Ford Barn Forum from Alaska,

The Motor Mounts look like they are forged, is this car by chance Canadian. If is Canadian you will find most or all of the screws will have Robertson heads.

Welcome to the barn! They didn't make deluxe roadsters in '29. Looks like a great project! Wish I had something like that...

If in fact it is a 1929, it has to be an early one.. It shows a red steering wheel, & the tail light mount arm on the lower rear body rail..

Looks like a nice solid car to restore or drive as is. Did someone hook onto the tie rod and bend it? Looks like it might be toed out.

Interesting photos! Where were they taken, kadena or Naha? Do you have any information about how all those Model A's got there? Did some GI have each shipped over at some time?

I have a library of Model A restoration articles you are welcome to use. Go to the web site of the Santa Anita A's of Arcadia, California at santaanitaas.org. On the home page put your cursor on "Technical Reference". My name will appear below, click on it and it will bring up the menu. The files are all pdf and you are welcome to download and print out any of them.

Good luck with your project.

Welcome! I am a pretty recent Model A'er myself, having purchased my first in August of this year. There were some trying moments straightening out previous owner related issues, but she's been running pretty good so far-I put 130 miles on it this weekend alone. The folks here have been very helpful when issues have come up.

it is locked up at a friends house right now but he is deployed he will be back this week so next weekend I can start checking numbers , compression, brakes steering ,tire and anything else before I try to start it. it has been stored in a covered area for 17 years is what I was told and with the weather here I am sure it was otherwise it would be a pile of rust. I was told the compression was 45 on all cylinders and that was hand cranking it over with no lube and it setting for that long.

Welcome Aboard. We will assist in any way we can. Very familiar with Kadena, flying in and out of there many times during "Nam" I remember those crazy taxi rides to Na Ha City. A 500 mile NASCAR race is tame to those taxi rides for 25 cents...

Model A's sold new in Japan were US sourced but RHD.
There was a new assembly plant built in 1928 at Yokohama.
Given that US Forces have been on Okinawa since the end of the War, your car could have easily come from somewhere else.
Good luck with it.

the person that last had it registered was 17years ago in Tokyo, it has never been on the road since it was brought to Okinawa. I cant find any numbers on the seat pan area or on the firewall/ fuel tank area
for dates or plant info.

Coming home from 'Nam, a good friend was trying to smuggle home an AK. He got it into Okinawa, didn't know how to get it home from there so he wrapped it up in cosmoline and a sealed plastic bag and buried it in the 'hills'.

We always laughed about him making a trip back there to try to retrieve it
