Default Armored cable - what's inside?

I'm trying to restore an armored cable for my ´29 model A, that I found at a market. I try to follow Les Andrews´method and have opened up the end that goes into the switch.
Inside the armored cable I expected to find just a cable, but there is also a spiral spring from the plunger, I don't know how far it goes, maybe the whole length of the cable.
Les writes "pull out the cable far enough to cut the wire". I'm not able to pull out more than 1/4 inch because the wire is connected at the distributor end and I can see the spring in that end moving when I pull.
Also, the spiral inside the armored cable is in the way is in the way.
The drawing I found in jmodela/coffecup is not detailed enough so I can understand these details.

So what should be inside the armored cable?

The original cloth covered wire is inside a small diameter metal flex tube, which is inside the large diameter spring cable. The small diameter armored cable also has a bare steel wire. The ends are a real pain to get apart on the early style. I used my Dremel with a pointed diamond grinding bit to remove the upsets holding the spring loaded end that screws into the distributor. You might be able to cut the wire half an inch or more from the end, then solder on the new wire and cover it with heat shrink insulation. I don't have any pictures of when I repaired mine.

The inner armored cable is wound in the opposite direction from the outer armored cable to prevent jumping the ignition wire.
