Default floor pan alterations to install mitchell OD?

Guys any one installed a Mitchell OD and tailshaft in a 35-36 roadster or coupe? Did you happen to write down the dimensions and alterations required to have enough clearance? My buddy who is installing new floor pans in my roadster can easily allow for this now, but I wont get the OD from Mitchell till February next year.
Also who is running what ratios and diff centers? I have a 4.11, a 3.78 and a soon to be rebuilt 3.54 rear end to choose from. A 39 transmission and a hot street Motor City Flatheads 282Ci motor, weber aluminum flywheel and new 10" clutch. 650-16 tyres.
I'd rather get the views from the real world, Mitchell sound good but nothing like hearing the views of the owners(good and bad feedback is always appreciated) Thanks for any help, Dan.

What condition are your brakes! This is the most important, friend has an Mitchell overdrive and you are going to be going very fast, (don't try to fly faster than your angle can fly ) they are great units. ( he has a 3.78 )

Hi Bruce. Thanks for the tip. I've travelled 100k miles in this car in 30 years with a quick 59a etc. I've just refurbished the brakes new linings wheels cylinders master cylinder and new brake lines still to come. Not interested in going hard anymore but I do have big distances to travel anywhere which is why I thought the Mitchell od would be great for dropping rpm down dan.

If it has a rumble seat it will have a clearance issue for sure. When I installed one in my 39 I made a template the same size of the Mitchell gearbox out of cardboard, then measured from the banjo flange forward to see if it cleared the pan dropdown. Sue Mitchell can give you all the dimensions.

Put one in my 40 and also replaced complete floor with a Bradley built floor no problem with clearance except put cable brkt to the bottom. If someone was in back seat it would hit when hitting a bump but I put Posie reverse eye springs and it lower the car a little.I have a 3.78 with a 36% OD from Mitchell.I used the cable instead of the stick in floor one

Planojc I've requested measurements from Sue. I don't want to order yet till a few barners can give me their driving experience regarding ratios etc. I'm leaning towards my current 3.78 rear and 36%od. What are other Mitchell OD owners running?

We have a Mitchell in our 46 and have almost 10,000 trouble free miles on it. Love it. 3.78 rear and the 26% with the cable shift. The lever shift does not fit in the 46. Simple shifting, just push in the clutch and make a shift. No clearance issues on a 46. 60 mph at 2100 rpm. 600-16 tires.

I'm running 3:54s with a 26% Mitchell, in my 41 pickup. Wish I'd would have gotten the 36%. I've had it six years with no trouble.

My friend 37 Don has one in his 37 4dr, 30K miles on it. 276, L-100 cam. 3.78 and 26% OD. I think the cam determines the OD I have a 280 with stock cam in my truck with 36% and it pulls the from 1500 up. A cam kills low speed torque and economy. In JWL's book you can cee this when going to the Max #1. These cams require higher rpm's to give the best economy. For the L-100 2400-2600 is best. A stock cam is around 2000- 2500. Now tuning the engine for economy is the hard part, and still have the power to climb hills..

No modifications to your floorboard? Mitchel doesn't hit anything on bumps?

Professor, With 2 people in the back seat our 46 will bottom out but only hits the exhaust pipes not the Mitchell. Original shocks that were rebuilt by Lou ? ( my bad memory) 10 years ago so may be getting weak. I have never tried to adjust them. Maybe I should..
Now when I talk about bottoming out with 2 in the back I mean when we are driving, not parking

Thanks Ol Ron. I'll check out with the previous owner. He had this motor in a 3 window 34 coupe. Hopefully he knows rpm etc in the old car.

Very funny John. Ahhh those were the days. Its amazing how much room is in the back of a roadster with the rumble seat not in

Ol' Ron the cam is a crower 390 lift 250 duration
Sounds beautiful on the test stand. Last owner says was set up to run at 2250 at 65 mph(105 kms).

The only think that hit is the arm that the shift cable hooks to.I put the arm to the bottom and now you push in to engage OD and pull out to disengage. But the 36% works great.

I put adjustable air shocks in the rear to keep the car level on road trips loaded or when guests ride in the back. My car doesn't go down the road straight when the rear end is low for some reason. The air shocks fixed that up.
