51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
Can anyone tell me if the headlight rings are the same? I have looked at both vehicles and they appear to be but have not had them off to compare.
I have a Merc that I would like to find a set for. Thank you |

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
Dennis Carpenter has both polish stainless and chrome plated rings for the 49 and 50 Ford. Usually if the part will fit a Mercury he states "Will also fit mercury" in his add.
I bet if you call them, they can tell you. I just saw these. Call and see. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-1950-49...sories&vxp=mtr and this http://www.ebay.com/itm/1949-1950-49...sories&vxp=mtr Last edited by 19Fordy; 06-25-2012 at 07:13 PM. |

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
The 51 Merc headlight ring carries part number 1A-13045-B, so it is the same as Ford.

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
49-50 F 1 trucks also use the same headlight ring as a 49 merc. We put 49 merc headlight rings on my friends 49 F 1 after he lost one on a trip.

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
They're not exactly the same but they will fit. The Merc had chrome plated die cast metal and the Fords are stamped stainless.
The '51s had deep set headlights, the '49 and '50 were flush. I have the 49-50 Dennis Carpenter repops on my '51 Merc. I had to drill a new mounting hole in the bottom of my headlight bucket. |

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
My '51 Ford has chrome plated die cast metal headlight rings. I am pretty sure they are original to the car.

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
THEY are DIFFERENT!
The 51's are about 2 inches deep and are chrome plated cast rings, almost makes them looked frenched. The 49-50 rings are small stainless rings. I am looking for the 51 style. |

Re: 51 Ford Vs 51 Mercury
There may have been more than one supplier to FoMoCo on the 1A-13045-B so there could have been subtle differences in the same part number but both Ford and Mercury passenger cars used the same part number part in the 1951 model year. All the ones I've seen are zinc die castings. I think the part design was too deep a draw to used stainless steel effectively.
The Dennis Carpenter catalog has reproductions but I've not had a close look at them. |
