Default Removing Bondo.

Is there anything out there that could soften Bondo (or whatever it is). I have 1/8" thick stuff on a very thin and rusty back window panel from my Special Coupe. Some of it pops off easily, but some is really stuck. I'm hoping to clean the piece off, use paint remover, and then sand it to prep for primer.

While paint remover will attack plastic body fillers, try using a heat gun first to see if it will release.

I've used a silicon carbide disc on my grinder. I LOVE these things. Like this one:

X2 on these, they work really good for removing old bondo but they do tend to polish the metal somewhat. Just make sure that the newly cleaned metal has enough surface teeth for the next step in your body work (epoxy primer or new bondo etc.)

Heat the bondo with a propane torch and it will fall off.

Never tried heat, I assume the heat gun wont warp the metal. I have used paint stripper, let it soak in for a bit and it comes off fairly easy. If its thick will take several coats. In the past I got the stripper from HD, got the best they had cant remember the name off hand.

That looks similar to roloc discs. They work great and are quick change.

X3 on propane torch. Heat a small section (on the underside if accessible) just enough so that it peels off with a putty knife. Move to another section some distance away. Keep feeling the panel with your hand so it doesn't get too hot. This is what I did with zero panel warpage.

I’d worry about warpage with a torch
Heat gun generally won’t get hot enough to warp
But experience and skill would preclude likely

Twisted knot stiff wire wheel on a grinder does good and won't bother good metal
