Keep the six. I have an H series in my F-1 and it's a great engine. Back in the day all us kids knew that a six would beat a V8 in a drag race every day. Take a look at the torque curves.

I did it over 30 years ago so I don't remember. Back then these old cars and trucks were just "old" and not very valuable. Most of the parts were found here and there. I gave $75 for the T5 and bought the adapter from Cornhuskers. Not cheap but the kit was complete and a breeze to install. Built my own rear cross member to mount the trans.
The late 40's and 50's were my racing days. Owned a number of flathead sixes but never had one that would outrun a V8. Can anyone who remembers those days remember a flathead six on a dragstrip or oval track? Don't think so. Even the bad guys drove Ford V8s cause the cops couldn't catch them.

GMC had a pretty hot OHV six cylinder in the fifties, a 302 I think it was. Then there was the Hudson flathead six with "Twin H" power. It was a big 308 cubic inch. Did well at Nascar races.

Yep. The Hudson Hornet for a little while. 308 cu. in. and factory dual carbs. A lot of motor in those days.

If I had it to do over I would have kept the six, there is very little difference in the h.p rating from what I read on the dash plate , the six may be a little heavier, but the six's have been known to kick a v-8 in the back side for about a quarter mile anyways, when tuned. The change over was a bear , everything had to go and the trans gears put in a v-8 case , although I was only a teenager when I decided I needed a v-8.

I had a 50 Model flathead 6 that out ran all the flatheads when I was a teenager, drag and topend. Had it rebuilt with chrome rings and the rings never seated to the cyl. mechanic said he never saw a block that hard. He told me to run the hell out of it and they might seat, never did. Traded it for a 51 V8 and it had 2 cracked cyl. Al
