Default Drake tank leaking. 35-36 Pickup

I have one of Drakes "Just as Henry made 'em" gas tanks on my 35 pickup. No where close to Henry's tanks, and it cannot be filled to the brim because it will seep gas out through the seams where the top and bottom are joined together, as well as at the rivets. So, don't fill it above the seam if you don't want gas on the ground. First time I had filled it up and parked it in the garage. Just sayin'.

Have you asked them for a refund or replacement?

Lawson I had issues with a 38 tank from drake from the sender connection, because it was tapped to a modern tank gauge and more, wasn't real solid for a standard gauge at all. Made a cork gasket myself and a little or more Indian head permatex. Total bummer man. It's been okay but I don't trust a full fill up.

Also had to re-tightening the tank to filler hose connection. Which you expect.

If it's leaking for sure out the seam of the tank (totally plausible and possible) then it's a manufacturing issue. Hope it turns out well.

If they have shipped you a leaking tank they face quite a liability. You share it by knowing it leaks. You should give them the opportunity to make it right.

I do not think I could physically handle replacing the tank myself. I bought it through Dennis Carpenter.

How long have you had the tank? Did you do any modifications to it to get it to fit? Have you talked with Carpenter?

a little too late, but I never install a reproduction tank unless I coat the inside with por 15 gas tank sealer. I had one that leaked thru the spot weld where the baffle was installed in the tank and since then I have done as I said. wish you were closer I would come and take it out, seal it then re-install for you! Heh! anyone near Lawson that could help him out????

Drake tanks are crap, just sent a 40 tank back to them as their sending unit would not fit in their tank. Of course the reply from Drake, " We have never had that issue before ". Translated : "We have had numerous complaints, but are not allowed to share that with u" !!!

Hard to beat original equipment.

Our '36 PU has the original tank with POR 15 as a sealer, going on 14 years and never has leaked a drop of fuel.

Used POR 15 in my leaking F1 tank in 1986. Still going strong.
