According the EFV-8 Club's 1937 Book, that type was also used on very early 1937 Ford production.

They were used after the upgrade to the oil pan vent set up. Ford had complaints of the oil blow by smell wafting up and invading the cab under certain conditions with those so it was dropped in favor of better containment with the small oil filler/breather inlet cap set up.

your picture missed the area where it should be. but, easy enough, if the pan is smooth all around the front, its the wrong pan. the vent is pretty unmistakable, about 1x2 wide, 2 tall, every pan from 35 to 48, front right corner

The Canadian Ford engines have differences in ways that I don't even know yet. The C69 series are more different than usual. They have insert rod bearings but some of the bottom end bearings are hard to source due to differences from the USA counterpart. They may have had a bit different vent that the USA made engines prior to the 8BA era back to 1935. The front right corner of the pan on USA versions definitely looks different than that. Canadian military engines had oil coolers and different filtration systems as well for some applications.

I was wondering what this vent is for on my oil pan (C69 industrial engine).

never seen one that shape, but i know nothing about canadian motors. us pan, same location, but not open on the bottom like yours, and more of a rectangle shape

That pan was modified in the back for an industrial application but the vent in the front may be just OEM for a Canadian engine. Clean outs were common for the 8BA era truck engines but they are different than that type.

The pan is stamped with the clean-out recess, but there is a crude soldering job in the area towards the bell housing stamping where the two PCs meet.

Ford USA used a steel gauze in the some 8BA family road draft tubes. As long as it allows the engine to breath out there then It should be OK to put a filter gauze there. It will have to be cleaned periodically to insure clear flow.

That pan is not modified...it is standard factory C69A pan for truck engine with the big clutch, allows r&r of clutch without dropping the entire pan

It sure looks a lot different than the USA truck pan that had the trap door in the bottom.
