Default 1934 Phaeton Wiper Question

Hi. I'm looking to add original style vacuum wipers to my all original '34 Phaeton. The Green Book calls out a separate part number for Phaetons and Roadsters - B 17508-E. Is that because they were chromed? Will wipers from other models and/or years fit? Were they Trico motors? Any sources to recommend? Thanks in advance.

They were unique to '33-'34 roadsters and phaetons because of the way they were attached to the windshield frame, the length and type of operating shaft, and the orientation of the vacuum line fitting. There were two versions; one finished in black paint for standard models and the other chrome plated for deluxe models. There is documentary evidence that a variable speed control was added late in the '34 model year to the deluxe version. It was identical to that used on the '35-'36 open cars.

All wiper motors used by Ford in the U.S. during that period were manufactured by Trico. A late '32 roadster-phaeton wiper motor is the same as that used on all but very late '34 roadsters and phaeton. Since Trico supplied many of the vehicle manufacturers of the period, there are wiper motors from other vehicles that are very similar to what you are seeking and may serve as an acceptable substitute depending on your objective. An example of this is shown on the current thread regarding a wiper motor for a '32-'24 pickup here on the barn.

DavidG, thanks for the info. Yes, the Green Book lists the same part number for 32-34 Roadsters and Phaetons, so I assume any of these would work. Mine is a deluxe, so I'd prefer the chrome plated version. Would you happen to know the Trico part number for these, or know where I might be able to cross-reference them? Thanks

Sorry, I don't have a Trico catalog of the period. I wish I did as the motors are normally stamped with their numbers, not Ford's part numbers. Perhaps someone with a catalog will chime in.

The Trico parts number for the Roadster Phaeton deluxe is KSL158 and the standard car is KSL104 and can be usually found on the front cover of the motor. Here is a photo from the Trico parts book.

My Trico catalog has the above data plus the Deluxe open car passenger side wiper is KSL-166 and KSL-103 is an optional wiper for both positions.

Thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated! I'll have to keep a lookout on eBay for one of those Trico catalogs.

Check this ebay listing for a nos triconchrome 35-36 wiper motor. This guy seems to have good availability. # 153251090049. Good luck.
