Default 30s side panels to hood protection

On 30s cars, is there supposed to be rubber between the hood edge and the top of the engine side panels? To protect the paint on top edge of side panel.

Up through '36 the hoods open from the side. They have bumpers on the hood sides and fenders.

Later, "hood up" cars, I have no clue.

Edit: Now I've read your post again. No the engine side panels attach to the hood tops without any rubber.

More information needed......

• Exactly which year vehicle are we discussing on your original post?.....

• Which hood edge are we actually talking about?.....

• What are you calling engine side panels? The sides of the hood, or possibly the inner fender panels?

It's tough to answer questions without proper identification of parts/pieces, and year of manufacture.

The 1938 Ford Deluxe hood has seven rubber bumpers attached to its bottom edge: One large bumper at the front, and three smaller bumpers on each side. The front bumper is donut shaped to accommodate the centering knob of the chromed V8 grille center.
