Re: Doesn't Want to Restart After Running a While
Can you hear sloshing inside the coil when it's removed from bracket?
If so, it's oil filled and should be turned 180 deg with terminals up to keep it cool. Need to make a longer lead to distrib. |

Re: Doesn't Want to Restart After Running a While
Great ideas from so many! Thank you.
Not sure if I've gotten past this issue, but taking Mike Peters' comment, I stared at the Les Andrews book. Low and behold, the coil wires did seem to be reversed. I was nervous about stirring up something with a switch of pos and neg, but I did so. I've road tested it and the subsequent start-up was great. It fired and caught quickly. I let it cool down and repeated the test with the car parked and again, all seemed fine. Weather permitting, I'll road test it again tomorrow. I am guardedly optimistic! |

Re: Doesn't Want to Restart After Running a While
Do you have the Modern Points and condenser? I have them and will be going back to the original style. I had a similar problem and I found out you need to have the cable screwed into the distributer just a turn or two or the cable with force the plate to short out. The old style condenser stops this problem. You can also put a wood dummy in if you like. Also look at the flex wire under the plate in the distributor.....mine was fine but many people find that wire to have a cracked jacket.

Re: Doesn't Want to Restart After Running a While
The primary cable can'r be screwed in too far with either style plate, it can ground with both.
The 'modern' upper plate works fine as long as its wired. If it wireless just add the fine strand wire. Actually the modern upper plate with the Ford V8 condenser is farther away from the heat. Just make sure you use a good quality condenser. |

Re: Doesn't Want to Restart After Running a While
I have Model A's and T's and they often sit up for long periods. When I was using E-10 gas in them, they often accumulated enough water in the carburetor bowls that they wouldn't start without draining them or they would start and stall while driving. Now that I can get E-free fuel the problem is solved for me.
