Default Grille color for a 1940 ford pickup

I have seen black grilles, chrome grilles and grilles painted to match the body color. Which of these is correct for a 1940 ford pickup? Howard Towne's book on page 16 states that that the 1940 ford pickup grille is the same as the 1940 standard passenger grille which I think can be either black or body color. I welcome your comments.

Thanks for your prompt reply. My 1940 ford pickup has a Folkstone gray body and I had the grille painted to match the body. Several people have told me it should be black which motivated me ask what people associated with the forum would think.

Several people need to educate themselves before telling you how to restore your pickup. Folkstone Gray is a great color, BTW. One of my favorites.

I have heard so much bad information from spectators at car shows that it boggles the mind. It seems that people go out of their way inventing mis-information.

Thanks for your comments. For your information, the motivation for my color combination of Folkstone Gray and black with a red Vermillion stripe came from a cover photo of Renee and Benny Frazier's 1940 ford in Dennis Carpenter's 2004 parts catalog for 1932-47 pickup parts in which the grille is painted black.
