Default Cowl lights on '28 Phaetons?

Does anybody know if cowl lights were available from the factory or a dealer-installed option on the 28 Phaetons?

Unless you are going for high point judging, don't worry about it. It's your car. If you want cowl lights, put 'em on !

NO, Dont do it as Mike says, From the day you put them on, you will hear it from other people that know they dont belong on that car.. It WILL get very old.. Plus why do you want to make holes in perfectly good sheet metal that never had it from the factory, even as an option..

forget about the cowl lights... Put on them there lights under the headlights and when you steer they move the same direction... Like them there Packard's and fancy Duzzie's.

I'm not a fan of rewriting history either. Standard Model A's look great and are becoming a rare breed.

Fred,

I was just trying to make a funny in regards to the never ending battle
of: Accessorizing the Model-A Ford, YES or NO! I agree with both sides along as we can all sit down and have a drink about it. At least that is what I'm sticking too.

I don't do stuff like that to my cars because I see myself as owner and caretaker of pieces of history, and someday someone else will own them. And I don't want the next owners to say, "Look at what that fool did to an otherwise nice original car." Maybe it's an ego thing, but there you are.

Tom, that's great looking Phaeton!

But I'm afraid I'm going to have to tow it away, as it's illegally parked.

This is what a 28 phaeton would look like with cowl lights incase you were wanting a reference to look at.

28Annie .....................
Now, you see what your car would look like !
If you have a set of the very rare '28-'29 cowl lights and own a '28 and want to install them, it's up to you.
I would question the character of someone who would tell you that they are wrong. They might be technically correct, but it is your fun project.
Repairing a 1" round hole is a very minor fix in comparrison to most of the work that needs to be done to a 84 year old automobile.

I've got to agree with Jeff. I don't like cowl lights. I'm a retired bodyman and I cringe at the thought of having to repair the holes in the cowl panels. All of my model A's are standard models. The only 28-29 model A that looks right with cowl lights, to me , is the town sedan ,the town car and the cabriolet. I'm not politically correct, If I don't like it ,I just don't look and try not to comment.

Sure is easy to stir up this hornet's nest! Maybe I should have asked which came first - the chicken or the egg

I'll leave the cowl lights off for now but I'm not backing down on the coffee-can muffler like all the other kids have now.

The chicken must have come first, otherwise who sat on the egg to hatch it?

Holy-Moly, I better not ever try and show a picture of my '29 roadster
when I get through accessorizing it on this forum. It came with the
repop Ford '29 A-Model cowl lights and when I'm through with it. The
aftermarket twin spotlights, driving lights and all chrome aftermarket folding windshield stanchions will definitely brand it a
"clown" car. Seeing as it already has sidemounts, white walls, etc.
The way I look at it since I can't afford a custom Dietrich bodied 1929 Packard Sport Roadster I'll do the next best think and make my roadster
look like one. I do hold the line at putting on running board step plates
and a radiator stone guard. I hope I don't offend anydody, I just like
to add a little silly humor ever now and then.

Fred, I don't believe personal attacks have a place here on Fordbarn. No, I'm not the sheriff but I do believe that we can conduct ourselves better than that. Variance is fine, intolerance isn't.

Seems like the original question about availability got lost in the comments about the desirability. Wonder if the question had been "do they look good" would the comments have been about the availability?
