Tranny shipping box
I have a T86 R10 overdrive that I want to ship but I have ( NO ) carpenter skills.
Does anyone have a new or used wooden box they would sell me. If so, include the price of shipping to my zip code which is CT 06084 and a picture. My email is [email protected] Thanks |

What are the dimensions needed? Does FedEx accept wooden boxes?

Re: Tranny shipping box
I believe the Mac Van Pelt has boxes. A while ago I sold a Merc non o/d 3 speed that I shipped FedEx. I bolted it down to a plywood board and found a heavy card board box form an a/c compressor unit and slid the tranny on the board into the box. IIRC I also slipped some plywood boards along the sides and top for additional protection. Made it to Washington state with no problems. If you can find the right box you could have the necessary plywood cut for you at a DIY store and you wouldn't need any carpentry skills other than some drywall screws to fasten the straps holding the trans to the bottom board. Just a thought, might save you a buck or 2.

Re: Tranny shipping box
Not that you asked, but check your local Fastenal. Very cheap shipping. I’ve shipped a few engines with them. Catch is they only go store to store.

Re: Tranny shipping box
Fastenal isn't shipping for 3rd parties for the time being.

Re: Tranny shipping box
If you end up shipping with Fastenal, they may require something they can fork lift. I used an old pallet that i cut up to size. U might check on their requirements before u make a box. I just screwed 2x2s and plywood to the pallet and shipped a fordomatic and they were ok with it. If i remember, the shipping was 1/2 of any other shipper. Hopefully they will start accepting freight again soon

Re: Tranny shipping box
Some years ago, I received a Ford-o-Matic on a wooden pallet, similar to the big square ones you often see, but this one was way smaller and rectangular shaped. To me, it would be easy to build one like it out of some of my junk lumber stash and some wood screws, but I am sort of a jack of all trades and do have carpentry skills and tools.
