Re: Fender braces
I have a 1937 car and the fender braces that year mounted from the frame behind each wheel to a tab on the fender just behind the wheel opening. One bolt at the frame and one at the fender. I am not familiar whether the 1938 braces are similar to the 1937 of different.

78-16094 is the front fender brace that attaches from a large hole in the side of the frame behind the front wheel, approximately 1/2" diameter, to the tab on the lower lip of the front fender, behind the front wheel. 78-16341 is the rear fender brace that attaches from a large hole in the side of the frame behind the rear wheel, approximately 1/2" diameter, to the tab on the lower lip of the rear fender, behind the rear wheel. My car is all apart and I will have to assemble the parts to show you what I am trying to describe. Your fenders may be missing the tabs for attaching the braces, I have had a couple like that. I recently repaired a rear fender to add the tab back on. Luckily I had a fender to copy. |

Re: Fender braces
Hope these help. From a Fordor not a coupe but should give you a better visual idea. Back tires are off so was able to get a clear shot but front tires are on blocks and chalked so wasn't able to move the tire outta the way.

Re: Fender braces
On c&g website it says 48-16068/67 Supports the large front fender brace and bolts to the front crossmemeber.
The only other brackets on my front fender are in pics attached. One on wheel side which shares a bolt with one on engine side which looks similar to what c&g has pictured. The shared bolt has red arrow pointing at it. Doesn't quite correspond with C&G description as mine goes to the frame not the cross member but that could just be difference from Fordor to coupe? |

Remember that the "48-" prefix indicates a 1935 Ford "FIRST use" part. DD |

Depends on the part. Many 1935 parts ("48A-" prefix) were used on 1936 cars. Generally, 1936 "first use" parts have a "68A-" prefix. A good example of overlap....the front I-beam axle on a '36 Ford should go by the number "40A-3010". The "40A-" represents a first-use 1933 Ford part. But, the axles stayed the same 1933 THROUGH 1936. So, a replacement axle for a '34, '35 or '36 Ford would be a "40A-3010"......not a "68A-3010". Clear as mud, huh? Good questions, though! It really helps ya to learn the basics of the Ford numbering system, especially those prefixes. By the way, that "A-" indicates use of a part on a "PASSENGER CAR and COMMERCIAL vehicle (commercial vehicle is a pick-up and a sedan delivery). DD |
