bmw woes
It was hot today, and smokey. Half the country is on fire.
I pulled up at the lights and a new BMW convertable pulled up beside me. Very smart it was. It seemed to disappear in a cloud of smoke, or was that steam? Seemed to be steam. Water was pouring out. The owner seemed not to be concerned. Drove off quite happily leaving a pool of fluid. Maybe the coolant was just finding its own level like an A. |

Re: bmw woes

Re: bmw woes
A mile down the road you'd have found him. Then some dealer will sell this nice looking car to some unsuspecting fella, and he'll wonder why 5000 miles later the engine gives up.... ignorance is REALLY not bliss.

Re: bmw woes
Could be the electric water and/or the thermostat gave out. The electric water pump is known to fail around 100k miles. Too much plastic is used throughout the BMW engine to reduce weight.
I’ve got 120k miles on my 328i and I’m going to get the water pump replaced before it goes out and leaves me stranded. David Serrano |

Re: bmw woes
They like to leak, and the plastic fans like to break, I have seen the plastic blades come through the hood, many cars now have snap together hoses too---- and yes, the electric computer controlled water pump/ thermostat tucked into a Gordian knot of hoses

Re: bmw woes
I have an '11 335 that I bought used. The more I learn about it the more terrified I am of something going wrong. Nice little car to drive but the unnecessary complications, price of parts/labor may force me to sell.

Re: bmw woes
BMW and Mercedes are nice cars when new, but they are over-engineered.
They are a maintenance nightmare. Parts and labor. I know of a guy that spent $2200 having the two front shocks replaced on a Mercedes. Ya gotta be kidding me, NO WAY. It was very labor intensive and a hard job. I would never own any of them. |

Re: bmw woes
Much better than working on cheap cars--- when you say it's going to 6000$ to fix a benz usually the bigger question is " can I pick it up tonight "
