Default Share your Model A Love Stories

I rode in my first Model A Ford almost sixty-five years ago when my folks carried me home in their 1930 Coupe. That car is still in the family because my folks loved it. Fifty-five years ago, I first saw the Model A I own today. That is another love story. My son used my Model A for his wedding "car". The love goes on. He recently created a video to share "A Love Story".

Do you have "A" love story to share?

My first memory of my car is me standing up under it right behind the rear axle! Now I have a hard time crawling under it as I have grown a bit. But still love driving her around and showing her off.

One of my first car dates was with a beautiful classmate. we went to the movies in mt 31 std coupe. When I took her home and turned off the key my 31 coupe backfired like the atom bomb. I saw her at the last class reunion and she's still beautiful. Great memories.

Thanks for the kind remarks and thanks to the other posters for sharing. Do you suppose anyone is going to be lamenting about the good old days of dating and driving in their Kia!

When I was in high school I had a '31 Sport Coupe. It had a shortened gear shift lever. This made it possible to pull the lever up and rotate it 180 degrees for more legroom when parked.

I don't remember any Model A "LOVE" stories
The "LOVE" stories started after I graduated to a Black '41 Ford Convertible! It had NO rear quarter windows & had that ITTY BITTY back window!! Looked like NOBODY was HOME in that BLACK back seat!!! Bad Bill W.

Went for a ride with my girlfriend in my dad's 31 roadster and asked her to marry me. After 35 years still have the same girl and car!

When I was 18 back in 1972, I wanted a motorcycle. My Dad was a surgeon and no way was he going to get me one.... too many summers spent sewing up kids that had been in motorcycle accidents. So i said " How about an old car Dad " he didn't say no, so i put an add in the local paper and this is what turned up. Dad paid $550 for it and I towed it home behind his Bronco. I still have the car. Best descision he ever made... he always knew where I was and what i was spending my money on. When ever his friends and colleagues would come for a visit, he would always take them out to the shed to show them the neat old car his son restored !!

My uncle had parked his A in the shed next door to me when he went off to school in 1954.He had played around too much in high school, and found that the college's here had higher standards than in the south. So,he wound up going to college down there. In 1968 he was here to visit, and told me that if I wanted the A I could have it.It had been the family car, truck, and tractor all in one.I still have it today. The coupe body had the rumble lid replaced with a pickup bed made in Amesbury Mass, but had been beaten so badly the top lips were worn away along with the gutters.I put a pickup cab and bed on it.I bought the bed new from Mack Hils.I later put another frame under it,all the years of farm use had bent, twisted and broken it up badly.Just a few years ago I pulled the closed cab off and put a new Brookville roadster pickup cab.My uncle was here for a visit just after I put the new cab on and he asked what I did with the old one he gave me.He was kind of surprised that it was the same vehicle with a few changes. He figured I was going to have at it with a few wrenches, learn something, and scrap it like most kids did.A couple of weeks after he left for home,(California) my mother got a package from him.It was the horn he had taken off the car when he went off to school in 54.Back then kids stole those horns off every car they could find in a shed.It was on his desk all through college, then on his desks throughout his career as a rep for Bucyrus-Erie,Kato,Komatsu,Fruehof,and a couple others. It is back on my truck now after a rebuild. It still has the original paint on it.

My wife and I were driven from the church in the phaeton. Still have her and the car. We actually met because of the car so it has a lot of connections to us.

And again I say, "Thanks"! It is great to see a mix of us old guys who have had our "A" for a long time and a bit of younger blood too. I know I am blessed. I hope more young families can be so fortunate.

PS: In case you missed my son's other Model A video: http://vimeo.com/26730650
