Thanks for the replies, fellas.
I don't know about the patience of jobe, but I do like to tie up loose ends. I think being patient enough to let things cool down before going at them would help. Two of them came out when trying the next day. That's got to be significant. Mart. |

Re: Studs on Sunday. Final part of the stud removal saga. VIDEO.
We remove broken studs by wire welding a nut to the end, if visible, or a bolt, if not. The heat will release the threads, allowing the stub to be backed out. Don't drill the stud, as you risk penetrating the water jacket. Common "easy outs" work by expanding the stud, making the job even tougher. If you don't have the equipment, find a shop that does before risking block damage. This procedure also works well to remove the usually broken exhaust manifold bolts.

I use allot of 50/50 mix over a few days befor I start, but blasting them with a torch seems to work best. However, when you get a hole so bad you can't us it. I replace it with a thread inseart. Using an old head to to use as a guide for drilling out the block for the incert. After all this heating and cooling of the block, i'd have it resurfaced when it's finished. I like you little drill press there., Good luck.

Thanks Gramps.
Frank: I ran the repair threader through and did then put a good quality tap through. I just cleaned the existing threads, rather than cutting anything. Mart. |
