36 Ford brake pedal return spring
Any tips on replacing the spring? Where does it connect at the rear? Can you access the spring through the floor with the trans cover removed? Thanks!

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
The rear of the brake pedal spring connects to a hole in the side of the tangs for the transmission mount. It’s the spring on the left in the picture. It is easy to get at with tranny cover removed. There is also a brake return spring on the brake rod cross shaft.

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
I can’t see how this spring from C&G would work. I’ve been told the brake spring is the same as the clutch spring as shown in the above post. I removed the floor board and can get right at it. I ordered a clutch return spring.

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
Dean,
That spring that you picture is the one that connects to the brake rod cross shaft. The V end hooks through a hole in the back of the frame tunnel and the hook connects between the two brake rods on top of the cross shaft. Wayne

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
The spring you are referring to hooks into the transmission mount

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
Freddie, which of the two are YOU referring to? I know the one I ordered, same as the clutch spring, connects as shown in post #3. It’s the one with the zig zag end I’m not sure of.

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
It hooks directly onto the pin that connects the crossshaft to the brake rods

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
And that is what I have been telling him over on the EFV-8C web site. (it really goes through the X member of the frame -- not under it)
I tried to get a picture, but too late, as the drive shaft has been installed and you can not see it very well. I would have liked to see the size of the person that installed it back in 1936. His arms must have been the size of 8 by 8's. OR...........there was one of those special tools that did the job in 10 seconds or less as the frame moved down the assembly line. Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
Thanks guys. The Green Bible only shows one spring, with the zig zag end. The spring that is the same as the clutch spring is easy to see, the one I ordered today.

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
I just finished putting mine in using a pair of vise grips pulling on the hook end. Took everything I had to get it on the cross shaft!

Re: 36 Ford brake pedal return spring
The picture in post 13….how is it oriented? The left of the picture is toward the rear of the car?? Viewed from the right side?
