Default Merc Frame

I would really appreciate a little info. Do 39 merc frames fit under a 41-48 merc? What I need to know do they have the same dimensions.

I don't believe they do, but maybe someone can verify that.

From the one example that I have seen, 1946 merc and Ford frames are the same, the front crossmember is moved forward on the Merc, there is a special part that moves the wishbone mount forward, and the steering columb is longer all by four inches, to accomodate the four inch longer wheelbase... I can throw one point in here. A guy I used to hang out with had a 41 merc. coupe with bad front fenders so we went and picked up a set of beautys from a 41 ford and you would surely need a 4" metal stretcher to get them down over the front tires on the merc. !

1942-48 Mercury will be way different than 1939-40 Merc, as mentioned the 116" vs 118" wheelbase, but also the overall shape. The 1942-48 Mercury is also different than the 1942-48 Ford because of the 118" vs 114" wheelbase. (note the basic bodys were the same 1942-48 Ford/Merc, the difference was a streched front end). I have no idea if the 1941 Merc used the same frame as the 1942-48, or if it was unique to 1941 as the Ford frame was.

I do have access to period sketches of the 1939 and 1942-48 Mercury frames, if one would help I can scan and email to you. Email to let me know karlw(at)wescottsauto(dot)com.
